Junior Kaylee Hempen is from Joplin, Mo. She was there the night that the devastating tornado came through her hometown. She and her family were very lucky and only lost a few tree limbs, but her family and friends were not as fortunate. Many lost their homes and their lives.
Kaylee is an active member of her church when she is at home in Joplin. She is a member of their church choir and also helps in their preschool. Last week President Obama visited Joplin where he spoke at a Memorial Service held at MSSU for all the loved ones of the dead and all the victims who had lost everything due to the tornado. Kaylee’s church choir was chosen to sing for President Obama at the service.
Kaylee expressed that singing for President Obama was amazing but singing for her hometown was even more rewarding.
Support efforts, prayers and thoughts continue to be sent down to those in Joplin. Kaylee continues to spend her summer helping her hometown recover from the destructive tornado. She is working each and everyday to help her famiy and friends sort through their homes and working diligently with many others to try and rebuild her hometown.
Kaylee, you and your hometown continue to be in our thoughts and prayers!
